CatchApp FAQ

What is CatchApp?

CatchApp is a smartphone application that allows you to create and manage different kinds of reminders. Reminders can be based on time, location or a combination of time and location. CatchApp is currently available for iPhone and with versions for Android and Windows Phone in the pipeline.

How is CatchApp different from other reminders?

CatchApp works the way you do. You choose how to remind yourself. Reminders can be notes, pictures, videos, voice memos, or marked spots on a map. With CatchApp you can start other apps such as Email, Messages, Twitter and many more. Moreover you do not need to know the address in order to set up an alarm. In fact, you can freely choose any location. CatchApp is a powerful app and we are sure you will figure out the differences between CatchApp and other reminder apps very quickly.

Where are my reminders stored?

All of your reminders are saved locally on your device. You can choose to passcode-protect some or all of your reminders.

Do I need an Internet/data connection for CatchApp to work?

CatchApp is able to locate your current position without the need of a data connection. However, if you do not have a data connection you will not be able to see your position on a map or search for an address. Reminders do not need a data connection; they will always go off when you reach a location or time connected to your reminder. In case you use CatchApp to start other apps, keep in mind that you will need a data connection in order to use email and other apps.

Will CatchApp work abroad/overseas?

Wherever CatchApp can locate your position it will work. CatchApp can locate your position through GPS, cell towers, and even over Wi-Fi. However, you will need to have a data connection in order to see your position on a map and search for an address. CatchApp uses the same Internet data plan that you use for web and email. If you would normally get cellular data roaming charges when traveling abroad / overseas for email and web usage, CatchApp would be no different. Of course CatchApp would be free to use over a Wi-Fi connection.

Why is CatchApp asking me if it can use my current location?

CatchApp allows you to create and manage different kinds of location-based reminders. If you prevent CatchApp from using your current position you will not be able to use the location-based reminder feature of CatchApp.

Is CatchApp available in my language?

At this time CatchApp is only available in English. However, we are working on localizing CatchApp and will soon support Chinese, German, French and Spanish. If you want to help us translate CatchApp into your language, feel free to contact us.

What Apple devices do you support?

We support all Apple devices no matter how old they are as long as they run iOS 5 and up. However, due to some hardware limitations on the iPhone 3GS, you won’t be able to use location-based reminders.

Does CatchApp work with Siri?

At the moment use of Siri is limited by Apple. We tried to integrate Siri as much as possible.  Thus you are able to use Siri to start CatchApp and also use it to dictate text when creating a Note reminder.

Does CatchApp sync with Reminders?

CatchApp does not sync with Reminders, but we are working on something.

Does CatchApp sync with iCal or Outlook?

Also no. However, we will definitely integrate this in one of our future versions of CatchApp.

How does CatchApp affect my iPhone’s battery?

CatchApp is built to preserve battery as much as possible. When using location services, however, you may notice your iPhone’s battery draining slightly faster. When you have no location-based reminders CatchApp automatically turns off location services, conserving battery life.
